When Does iOS 18 Come Out?

The iOS 18 beta is now fully live for both public and developer testers. However, when will everyone be able to get the update with all of the new features?

Anticipated Release Date

iOS 18 Expected public release in September

Most likely it will be in the upcoming week of the release of the new iPhone 16.

  • iOS 18 Now available in public beta (launched July 15)
  • iOS 18 Now available in developer beta (launched June 10)
  • iOS 18.1 Now available in developer beta (launched July 29)

During the yearly WWDC keynote, Apple unveils the significant upgrades to iOS, and the first developer beta is released a few hours later.

After the initial public beta was made available approximately a month after the fall iPhone event, the iOS was made accessible to the general public.

iOS 18: Major Updates

As Apple fans are waiting for the release of the new phone. The new iOS will be available for iPhone Xs and later versions of iPhone in the fall of this year. This update will offer significant improvements to all devices, as the company revealed in June. Apple claims that the operating system is “deeply integrated” with Apple Intelligence, a personal intelligence tool for users of iPhones, iPads, and Macs.

iOS 18: What’s New?

This year at the WWDC (Worldwide Developers Conference), Apple unveiled the iOS 18, the latest generation of the iPhone operating system. The AI capabilities and features that Apple is bringing to iPhones—a collective term for Apple Intelligence—have to be the standout features in the new iOS.

With Apple Intelligence, AI features that are supported system-wide including image creation, summarization, writing support, and more will be available. Apple is reportedly only going to provide a preview of these AI features with this initial release of the iOS update.

On that note, it should be mentioned that AI integration will not be available on all eligible iPhones running iOS 18; instead, the features will only be available on the iPhone 15 Pro models in addition to the upcoming iPhone 16 series smartphones.

AI-powered Siri

The AI-powered Siri in iOS 18 is another standout feature. With improved control over in-app actions for native Apple apps, the latest version of Siri boasts an interactive interface. Furthermore, Siri, powered by AI, provides enhanced contextual awareness for more tailored responses.

A feature worth noting is the use of OpenAI’s ChatGPT. This enables users to directly make use of ChatGPT. However, there’s much chance that Apple would probably not include the enhanced Siri in the first release of iOS 18. Instead, the more capable Siri will supposedly be available in the spring of the next year, most likely as a part of the 18.4 system update.

More Customization Possible

New Home Screen customization features that let users arrange widgets and icons wherever on the home screen and give app icons a tint to give them a more unique appearance are probably what the initial iOS updated version will offer.

Moreover, iOS 18 will let users personalize the two controls that show up on the iPhone lock screen, the Control Center layout, the Photos app, and new messaging features including the ability to add effects to certain words and support for RCS (Rich Communication Services) messages in some areas.
